Happy Birthday!

So my birthday was last week, Monday August 1st. And I finally turned 15!... Well anyway...
This is where the story begins.

I went to diabetes camp three week s before my birthday. It's about a 3 hour drive from my house to the camp, so we put out dogs in the backyard so they wouldn't be locked up all day. Abbey is a flat coated retriever and Mocha is a chocolate toy poodle.

It was beautiful day and we didn"t have a care in the world. I had a blast at camp, only to come home and find out that Mocha went missing the day I left. When my family got home part of the fence had blown down in a surprise thunderstorm. Abbey had stayed in the yard but Mocha had wandered off. We are assuming she was trying to escape the rain.

Well my family assumed that she wasn't far off because the storm had hit just an hour before and how far can a little dog go in an hour? They searched everywhere to no avail, and started to become worried. They drove up and down streets and were out for several hours, but a human being can only handle so much searching an walking. So they went home, and agreed that if she wan;t back by morning that the animal shelter would be called.

Well she didn't come back and the shelter had been called several times. I came home devastated and insisted that we should put up fliers. At this point we were thinking that someone picked her up and kept her. Since she's a poodle she needs to be groomed right? So we decided to put fliers in every dog groomer and vet clinic possible.

A week went by without any hope. And that's when I started looking at puppies. I was pretty much haunting my local classifieds. I wanted something small, energetic, low shedding, and grooming free. The perfect dog right? Well my grandpa is a poodle breeder and way into dogs. So with him and my mom we became curious and were searching online classifieds at my grandpa's house, about a week before my birthday.

And then I found her, the perfect puppy! Or actually two perfect puppies. A girl and her room mate were selling a two female min pin/ poodle/ terrier mixed puppies. One was the classic black and rust min pin markings and the other was a harlequin (merle) with rust markings. They were seven weeks old, and $100.00 each.

With Mocha still missing, and this being the breed we were looking for, my parents and mt grandpa agreed to buy a puppy for me if it's what I wanted for my birthday. Of course I  was ecstatic, and the next day my grandpa drove me the two hours to get her. It was hard decision but I chose the little black and rust puppy, with the thought that she would look better as an adult than the other puppy.

We brought her home, and after some agonizing we named her Charley Short for Charlotte. She was the most adorable thing I"ve ever seen.

The next day I had another camp that lasted for 5 days. I missed Charley, but I had a blast once again. The day I got back was when miracles took place.

A woman saw our sign at the Stansbury Pet Groomers, about Mocha. Stansbury is a good 15 to 20 minutes away from where I live. Her brother ad found a little brown poodle a week earlier. A little before I left for my second camp. She contacted her brother, and informed the groomers. The groomers called my dad, who then called my mom.

My mom and my aunt and my sister were coming home from the camp (in a separate car than me.) when they got the word. The description was perfect except for the collar she had a different collar than the one we described. My aunt said it may be a long shot but we should at least check it out.

They went to the man's house, and sure it enough it was her! He had taken great care of her. She was healthy and happy. He had found her in Stansbury in his garage sitting on a camp chair, skinny, full of burrs, and missing her collar. He had purchased her a new one, and pampered her to death. He was very nice and easygoing, and kind enough to let us have her back.

We brought her back home, Abbey was ecstatic to see her old friend, and Charley was happy for yet another new friend. And now our family is complete. :)
